Techniques For All

Practice your mountain bike skills from fundamentals to advanced techniques while riding in a safe atmosphere and meeting new people. Riders ages 14+ are welcome to join the following mountain bike clinics.

Advanced Registration Is Required
Pre-registration is required to help us ensure a 6:1 student-to-instructor ratio, as well as to inform all participants of required safety precautions. Drop-ins are not permitted.

Pre-Clinic Info
Please arrive at least 15 minutes prior in order to check in. If you plan on renting a bike, please contact Tahoe XC in advance to ensure a bike is available and arrive at least 30 minutes prior to clinic start time to set up your rental bike. All riders should be ready for clinics to start on time.

2021 Mountain Bike Clinic Dates

Wednesday Evening Clinics focus on 1-2 targeted skills in under 2 hours. Refine techniques and create accurate muscle memory through repetitive drills and feedback. Guided ride not included.

Saturday Morning Clinics are 3.5 hours, beginning with a 30-minute yoga warm up. Learn and practice 2 to 3 targeted mountain bike skills, followed by a short guided ride.

Fundamentals & Cornering

New to mountain biking or never had a lesson? This clinic is for you. Explore the ranges of motion that are possible on your bike. We will use drills to create better spatial awareness on our bike, explore bike/body separation, and improve your ability to dynamically maintain balance and stability on your bike. Next, we will jump into cornering! Explore different tactics and techniques to apply to all types of corners: flat to berms, slow to high speed, flow to tight switchbacks, etc.

Wheel Lifts

Designed for beginner, intermediate and experienced riders who have had limited coaching, this clinic begins with key fundamental movements, then moves on to a variety of techniques for lifting your front and rear wheels. Mastering wheel lifts allows you to have better control of your suspension and is the foundation for learning jumps and drops.

Technical Terrain Skills

Struggling on rocky, steep terrain? In this clinic, you’ll learn to better attack technical terrain, by learning the following key skills: trackstands, ratcheting, roll-down lunges, and drops. These maneuvers will give you the confidence you need to climb and descend the trickiest of terrain.

Yoga, Fundamentals & Cornering

Start the day right with a half-hour yoga warm-up, followed by a clear break-down of the fundamentals of mountain biking. Whether you’ve been riding for years or a few weeks, there’s always room to improve on the fundamentals. In this clinic, we’ll explore the ranges of motion possible on your bike, use drills to create better spatial awareness, explore bike/body separation, and improve your ability to dynamically maintain balance and stability on your bike. This clinic ends with a guided ride, where you can practice your skills alongside your instructor.

Yoga & Cornering

Begin with a half-hour yoga warm-up, followed by an in-depth instruction on cornering. Cornering is the most used and necessary skill of mountain biking. In this clinic, explore different tactics and techniques to apply to all types of corners: flat to berms, slow to high speed, flow to tight switchbacks, etc. By the end of the lesson, you’ll be equipped with a variety of drills to practice at home. This clinic ends with a guided ride, where you can practice your skills alongside your instructor.

Roll It or Drop It? & Yoga

Is that rollable? Let’s not learn the answer to that question the hard way… After a half-hour yoga warm-up, spend the morning learning about and practiving the correct body movements to confidently roll off steep ledges and rocks. What if it’s not rollable? We’ll teach you how to decipher rollable objects for your bike and execute drops when ledges are not rollable.
